Sam Elliot (We Were Soldiers) gives a star-making performance as Rick Carlson a lifeguard in his 30's who is grappling with what to do with his life. Preparing for another busy summer on a stretch of Southern California beach with his youthful, rookie partner (Parker Stevenson), an aging Rick is forced to reexamine his career choice after he attends his high-school reunion. Anne Archer (Fatal Attraction), his now-divorced former sweetheart, and Kathleen Quinlan (Apollo 13), an infatuated, teenage, costar in this poignant character study set amid the surf, sand and sun of one memorable California summer.
